Soap nuts are not a nut as such, they are a dried berry. They are chemical free and allergen free, they will not irritate the skin and they’re recommended for use by people with eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.
You can boil soap nuts up in water to create a liquid soap that’s incredibly versatile and safe for the environment, you can add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to create a perfect hand or body wash. Liquid soap nuts are also ideal for any types of washing you may want to do around the home, try it on your counter tops, you can wash your dishes with it or clean the bathroom. The only limit is your imagination.
Personally I use it to wash all of my clothes and have done for almost 2 years now. It’s so simple, just place 4-5 of the nuts into the small cotton bag provided and pop it in your washing machine. When your wash is finished, remove your clothes leaving the nut bag in the machine. Put in your next load of clothes and away you go again, the one batch of soap nuts can do 5-6 wash loads.
Once the soap nuts begin to feel thin and brittle within the bag, empty them out into your compost and pop in 4-5 more nuts. It’s so simple.
We love soap nuts so much we’ve brought our own bags in from India where they are grown in the foothills of the Himalayas. We aim to keep ours as the cheapest soap nuts available in Australia.
So if you haven’t tried soap nuts yet give them a go, you’ll wonder why you weren’t using them years ago. Save yourself money and help the environment at the same time.
